Should a Digital Workplace Be Part of Your Business Continuity Plan?

Disasters are inevitable for global organizations that are dispersed in numerous geographies. Business continuity professionals must have a plan in place to make sure the business impact is as minimal as possible. What does a digital workplace have to do with business continuity? A whole lot – hear me out. If set up correctly, employees can access their “work world” from anywhere, on any device. Being accessible via mobile devices opens an employee’s ability to work, regardless of what’s happening at the office.

Let’s Talk About Integrations

To be honest, mobility isn’t what makes a digital workplace a digital workplace. But, being mobile is a key piece. With that said, it is important that employees have their “work world” available on one platform. What does that really mean? It means, the tools they use in their day to day are accessible in a single UI. The digital workplace should be able to pull in tasks, alerts, data, and so on from third-party tools such as a ServiceNow, Slack, Workday, Paychex, etc. This will allow folks to work seamlessly and effectively, no matter if they’re in the office or not.

Communicate and Collaborate Effectively

On top of the integrations, a digital workplace can bring employees together (again, in a single UI). Instead of sending an email out (which we can all agree isn’t as effective as it once was) and hoping you get a response, you can collaborate across applications. If you’re working with sales on an enablement piece and they happen to use Microsoft Teams, you can have that displayed with alerts set within your digital workplace. Same is true if Marketing happens to be using another tool, such as Slack. Additionally, key resources can be shared and delivered directly to active project folders to specific roles (e.g. Marketing sharing new collateral to salespeople). Feedback can be gathered live, allowing employees to feel more connected and empowered with their voice being heard.

So, to wrap up this blog, business continuity and digital workplaces should go hand in hand. Digital workplaces cannot only minimize business impact during a disaster but can actually increase productivity given its centralize UI and proactive alerting for employees.
