Chapin International of Batavia, NY is in their 12th year of hosting a charity golf tournament that benefits a local charity chosen by Chapin every year. I have been part of the tournament as a volunteer and player for the last ten years, but this year I was able to take part in the tournament in a special way by sponsoring a hole on behalf of Akumina. This sponsorship helped the tournament raise over $32,000 to help the Salvation Army Emergency Food Bank of Batavia.
Chapin International is a local company in Batavia, NY, where I grew up, that specializes in commercial and residential sprayers. For most of my life, my father has worked for Chapin in many different capacities and I even did an internship there during my college years. It is a great family owned company that has been in business for over 100 years.
In 2007, Chapin started another tradition, a charity golf tournament. The tournament is directed by my father, Norm Hubbard, and put together by a large committee of hard working and caring members of Chapin staff. It started as a small outing made of just a few teams with great intentions of helping a local cause or organization and improving the local community.
Since then the tournament has grown significantly. So much so that they even had to find a larger course to host the number of teams that wanted to play. The annual site for the tournament is Terry Hills Golf Course in Batavia, NY that boasts 27 well-groomed holes of golf and plays host to several large tournaments throughout the year, including the Jim Kelly Celebrity Golf Classic.
For the last ten years I have been honored to be part of such an amazing event by volunteering and participating in the tournament. This year was extra special for me as I was able to provide additional aid to the chosen charity, the Salvation Army Emergency Food Bank of Batavia, by sponsoring a hole as a representative of Akumina. These hole sponsorships go directly to the charity and significantly increase the bottom line that the tournament donates to the charity.
“When Cory approached us with the opportunity to be a part of the Chapin 12th Annual Charity Golf Tournament, we were on board right away,” said David Maffei, Akumina president and CRO. “It’s an honor to have been able to contribute to that $32,000 raised for the Salvation Army, and we’re looking forward to taking part in more events like this one.”
This year the tournament hosted 52 four-person teams for a total of 208 golfers and raised over $32,000 for the Salvation Army Emergency Food Bank of Batavia. This will enable them to increase their ability to produce meals and ultimately the number of people they serve on a weekly basis. I am incredibly proud to have been part of this and am looking forward to another great year next year.
