5 reasons why remote work experiences can enhance company culture

You read the headline right – remote work experience can actually improve a company’s culture. This might seem counter intuitive, but the truth is that, with the right employee experience solutions and tools, remote work can not only lead to more happiness and productivity, but actually strengthen your company’s culture. Here’s how.

Remote Work Reflects our “Always-on” Culture

Thanks to our many connected devices, we never really “go offline” and the same can be said for our work. The ability to flexibly choose when and where you get work done is tantamount to maximizing productivity. With easy access to communication, software, documents and project management tools on an employee experience platform, your work doesn’t have to miss a beat (even if you’re stepping out to walk the dog).

All Teams Created Equal

With all employees equipped with a digital workplace experience, the division between “on-prem” and remote workers disintegrates. Thanks to advanced communication and collaboration technologies, employees around the world can come together to work on projects, brainstorm and celebrate milestones. Even office workers become part of the remote workforce, as they interact with colleagues via the digital workplace experience.

It’s Personal

Before the digital revolution, remote workers had to virtually onboard via clunky intranets and phone calls with HR and for any tech issues. IT help was sometimes, literally, miles away. Today, conversational user interfaces using artificial intelligence help improve the experience of remote employees, bringing them closer to their support teams and vice versa. As solutions become more sophisticated, machine learning will provide tools to anticipate employee needs ahead of time, leaving more room for collaboration and conversation.

Turn Off Turnover

Millennials are known for job-hopping, and research has found that it has helped them grow their careers. So, what does it take to make employees stick? A solid culture. In fact, a study by Glassdoor revealed that most people believe a strong company culture will make them happier at work than earning a high salary. Our own research uncovered another millennial characteristic - of the more than 1,000 millennial managers we surveyed, 89% indicated that they’d prefer to work from home at least one day per week, and 36% would increase that number to three or more days. Therefore, a strong culture should include the flexibility to work remotely.

Eliminate Hassle and Distractions

We’ve all been there – the morning commute takes twice as long as you anticipated, or you hit a huge line to get lunch and have to scramble to make it back to the office for a meeting. You’re not alone in finding interruptions to the workday as a barrier to productivity. A study by Forbes found that,“65% of full-time employees think a remote work schedule would increase productivity.” In the same report, two-thirds of managers echoed that overall productivity was higher for their remote employees. (Not that we needed a statistic to prove that a hassle-free workday is preferred.)

A remote work experience can not only give employees all the tools they need to succeed, but potentially increase productivity and collaboration, reduce turnover and workplace distractions.
